Match the App to the User, Not the Other Way Round

The choice between the popular player apps for live channels comes down less to which is objectively better and more to which kind of user you are. In working through tivimate vs smarters which is better for different people in my family, a clear pattern emerged. The person who enjoys tinkering, who wants a carefully arranged channel guide and does not mind spending time setting it up, gravitated toward the more customisable option. The people who just wanted to turn on the television and watch, with no configuration and no learning curve, preferred the simpler, more straightforward app. Both groups were happy, but with different tools. That is the real insight: there is no single right answer, only a right answer for a given person and how they like to watch. When I set up devices for different family members, I matched the app to the user rather than imposing one choice on everyone. The lesson for any household is to think about who will actually use each device and how, then pick the player app that fits that person. A tinkerer and a technophobe are best served by different apps, and recognising that makes everyone happier.
